There are plenty of attractions to visit with friends and family during Thanksgiving week in Florida, from the magic of Disney, to small town shopping, to festive fun runs and beyond, we have you covered with our top picks that are sure to entertain and amuse even the pickiest of guests.
– Visit Disney World
Expect it to be busy, but if you plan your day right you can have a truly magical Thanksgiving in the magical kingdom. Use Fastpass+ to speed through long lines, and make sure you check out the special Thanksgiving Parade of Bands featuring award-winning marching bands from all across the country – just be sure to arrive early so you can get the best spot to watch the parade pass by. If you want to enjoy a sit-down turkey dinner make sure you book a restaurant well in advance – all of Disney’s restaurants are open on that day but not all are offering the traditional Thanksgiving Day fare, so ensure you check the menu before you book if this is what you’re after! Alternatively, stop by the Frontierland Turkey Leg Cart for a quick nod to tradition whilst you’re on the go!
– St Augustine and Ponte Vedra Beach Nights of Lights
From mid-November right through until January 31st St Augustine hosts an incredible display of lights all over the historic city, from the ground to the rooftops! The display was even previously voted by National Geographic as one of the 10 best holiday displays in the world. There are numerous events scheduled to take place throughout the Nights of Lights, but you can enjoy the displays themselves at any time by taking a tour on foot, on the Old Town Trolley, or even by Horse and Carriage. Why not stay overnight to soak up the full festive atmosphere and dine at one of historic Downtown St Augustine’s many fantastic eateries.
– Space Coast Turkey Trot 5k and 10k
Get set for turkey day with a morning 5k or 10k run taking in the beautiful Indian River, historic Downtown Melbourne, the Melbourne Causeway, and Front Street Civic Center. There will be an award for best costume, a pumpkin pie contest, commemorative Thanksgiving technical running hat for all participants, and a light breakfast available on completion of the event. Proceeds will go towards West Shore Parent Teacher Association, so you can feel good about putting all that effort in for an excellent cause!
– Shop Small Sip and Stroll, Cocoa Village
Head over to Downtown Cocoa Village on November 25th for a Shop Small event that serves as a welcome antidote to the madness of Black Friday. Support independent local businesses and buy some unique holiday gifts that will be sure to delight your friends and family. For $20 in advance, or $25 on the night, you will get a Sip and Stroll commemorative wine glass, a Historic Cocoa Village shopping bag, then take to the streets of the village to sample wines, enjoy festive treats, and take advantage of special offers from the independent stores.
